Alvin Purple are dirty. Dirty in a good way. Their debut double A Side released last year created waves across the blog-sphere, blending an irresistible pop melody with 'foot to the ribcage' beats and a soaring sonic landscape.

Favorites with Tom Robinson on BBC 6music, they combine chanteuse elements of Lykke Li with TV on the Radio beats, it is PJ Harvey at her most delicate set to enormous spaced-out Nick Zinner guitars, synths, lush reverb, samples, layers, space, it's all going off.

Channelling Portishead and PJ Harvey through their own dark pop-spectrum "Alvin Purple are one of those bands that seem to have emerged fully formed. Their sound is rich…moving effortlessly and when least expected from soaring sonic cathedrals to naggingly catcy elastic sounds via all-out shredding riffs" they've turned into a powerhouse of live band, creating urgent, genre spanning songs.

Ones to watch for 2012, having spent much of 2011 in the studio with James Kenosha (Grammatics, Dry the River, Pulled Apart by Horses) they're about to kick off this year with a run of highly anticipated singles.

Huh Her / Please Please is released 23/01/2012

Probably one of the most exciting and original bands to emerge from York in a LONG time.
