Legendary MOUNTAIN drummer, Corky Laing, one of the hardest hitting drummers in the history of rock music. Think the USA equivalent of Ginger Baker!
MOUNTAIN forged a style and sound that changed the face of rock music. Powerhouse double-drummer Corky Laing along with with Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi and Steve Knight gave us Mississippi Queen, Nantucket Sleighride, Theme From an Imaginary Western and many more; all standing the test of time. Debuting at The Fillmore in ’69 and playing at the granddaddy of all music festivals Woodstock, they burned brightly until splitting in ’72.
Best known for his work with Mountain and West, Bruce & Laing; Corky has also released solo material (‘Making it on the Streets’) and formed CORK with Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix’s Experience) and Eric Schenkman (Spin Doctors).
In the 90s as Polygram’s A&R Vice President he produced bands such as Men Without Hats and Voivod alongside his own radio show, anecdotal road stories book Stick It! and his own one-man show, The Best Seat in the House, combining storytelling and music.
During the past couple of years Corky has been busy with Playing God: The Rock Opera – a critically acclaimed collaboration with two Finnish philosophers. He performs frequently and in 2014 he was awarded with the Bonzo Bash Legends Award.
Corky has been sitting on the best seat in the house for years; and check out the video link, our man is very eloquent and witty – well worth a watch.
