LIVE FROM TIMES SQUARE NEWCASTLE! Legendary superstar DJ heads to Tyneside this July to take part in epic outdoor weekender!

The must-attend event of the summer, FATBOY SLIM takes centre stage on Friday 29th July joining Ocean Colour Scene and Maximo Park for one of the most eagerly anticipated weekends of live music the region has seen in recent times.

Fatboy Slim – alter ego of double Brit Award DJ Norman Cook (Right Here, Right Now // Praise You // Eat Sleep Rave Repeat and more has promised NE music fans, “This will be a show to remember! To celebrate my birthday weekend I will be conducting a mass science experiment at the Centre For Life on Times Square, to explore the effects of collective euphoria and escapism”.

“I chose the North East because in my previous experiments the people there seem to have a consistently high rate of abandonment and licentiousness when subjected to my music at a loud volume in an enclosed space”, he said. Norman continues, “We are conducting this on Times Square, an outdoor environment, in case the levels are so high that the audience blows the roof off. Confidence is high that we will reach new highs in audience frenzy and exhilaration”.

Cook first rose to fame in the 1980s as the Housemartins bassist, adopting the Fatboy Slim monicker in 1996 and racking up major mainstream success with his own take on electronic dance music alongside spellbinding live shows.

These days, Cook’s show involves not just playing his own patented brand of “party acid house”, but also a complex audio-visual production.

“I’m technically a video jockey now”, said Norman. “We write scripts for all the tunes, make films. In the past, I used to have to literally hold up the next record I was going to play to the guy who does my visuals, and he’d have to find the images to match it. And they were never synched. But now, because of the technology, no matter what speed I play at, even if I just chop quickly into it, the visuals are all synchronised. It’s a show”.
 
There’s more… DJing back to back with Carl Cox, unwittingly becoming the FA’s “official World Cup DJ”, a forthcoming tour of “nice characterful old ballrooms in Britain”. It goes on and on and it shows no sign of stopping.

“It doesn’t matter that you’re old and bald and grey and fat, because you were never a sex symbol in the first place. We’re pushing new limits. No one knows what the cut-off age limit of a DJ is. And apparently, it’s not yet”, Norman Cook roars with laughter. “I take great delight in that”.

Steve Davis, event organiser and owner of the Newcastle-based SSD Concerts, adds: “We’re extremely excited to bring such a huge name in the music industry to the North East for this event. Alongside Ocean Colour Scene and Maximo Park who are performing on this weekend, we feel we have the ultimate opening act for what we hope to be an annual event, there is no one better than Norman. He wants to perform here for a reason, which means a lot to us both as promoters and fans of his music”.

“There will be no cutting corners on production, so this promises to be a full-on celebration in the party capital of the UK. Whenever we have seen Fatboy Slim perform previously the atmosphere/ and visuals are always on another next level and this promises to be no different”.

“Fatboy Slim hasn’t played in Newcastle for quite some time and he has never headlined an outdoor show here and potentially won’t again. We have kept the tickets affordable so the event is more accessible to everyone that wants to attend. This will definitely be the event of the summer in the North East”.
