Hot on the heels of our hugely successful “Voices from the margins taking over the mainstream” gig at The Duchess in April, The Tang Hall Community Interest Company is proud to present ‘MANIFESTO’- a packed night of community music showcasing underground performers from York.

Specialising in using music to improve the wellbeing of people who are isolated and/or disadvantaged –the Tang Hall SMART Community Interest Company has seen the emergence of several exciting bands and soloists, with a shared perspective that music as an answer.

It can often seem that mainstream music is saturated with the same old acts, but we are proud to present our musicians, some of whom are homeless, some long-term unemployed, some have learning disabilities, some struggle with mental health or addiction … but all have an energy and a passion that comes from seeing the world differently to those who participate more comfortably in the mainstream.

This benefit gig, in aid of St Leonards Hospice, features The Collective (hard-hitting, rap fusion from Tang Hall), Odd One In (Rock 4-piece), Hip-Hop Shake Up (rappers who have learning disabilities), plus many singer-songwriters and other bands representing a range of genres from hard metal to country!

The night is a triumph of music over adversity, and also a sign of the growing popularity of community music.
