Louisville-raised, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Dawn Landes has been writing songs most of her life, and more than a decade as producer and engineer.
New album Bluebird was produced with good friend Thomas Bartlett (The National, Rufus Wainwright, Antony and the Johnsons) and features Norah Jones amongst others. Covered by the press as an answer to her ex Josh Ritter’s ‘divorce record’, nevertheless contained within are naked and honest songs rising above the context in which they were written, complimented by Bartlett’s spartan production.
Sitting somewhere between Cat Power and Neko Case and, in short, there are two sides two every story. This is hers.
Dawn is a refreshing alternative to schmaltzy neo-folk, and this is what the press has had to say:
“Spectral, languid, and arranged with a light touch, the songs are lled with after-midnight ruminations couched in a dreamy ambiance … a beguiling, ethereal voice” – NO DEPRESSION
“Compelling mix of alt-folk and experiments on guitar, accordion, glockenspiel and
optigan … sweet-sounding indie-pop grooves with just the right hint of country” – NPR
“Comparisons to Feist and Jenny Lewis aren’t unwarranted; a haunting presence in the world of alt-folk experimenting with a hypnotic stage presence”
