“Beautiful & quietly devastating”. And that probably sums it up. Check out ‘April’ and try not to be completely and utterly blown away by the beautiful and evocative songwriting and delivery of Sunderland-born Martin Longstaff aka THE LAKE POETS.
Festival regulars (Glastonbury, T In The Park, Kendal Calling etc) and sold out shows at London’s Roundhouse and The Union Chapel, The Gateshead Sage as well as O2 tours, The Lake Poets are inspired by Feist, Arcade Fire, Band OF Horses, Low Anthem, Tom Waits, Villagers and Neil Young. Haunting and wondrous, this is an event that will take your breath away.
And, of course, around these parts you may also have caught Martin solo supporting Amy MacDonald, Paper Aeroplanes and Treetop Flyers. Martin and, this time, with his wonderful band, has recently won the Alan Hull Award For Songwriting and selected as one of only 25 acts in the UK to be featured on the BBC 6 Music Introducing Picks of 2013 play-list, and ‘April’ receiving week-long daytime Radio 1 airplay. “Beautiful songs. An act to watch” – BBC Radio 1 “Marvellous music” – BBC 6 Music.
All in all, quite a show and tickets are going to be at a premium!
