And could they just be the best boy/girl/boy band in the world, right now?

Oil town Beaumont, Texas has lots of modern day JR Ewings, and notable alumni like slap-bass original Larry Graham, bluesman Blind Willie Johnson, ill-fated 50s singer The Big Bopper – and now party rockers Purple.

Don’t be put off by that tag ‘this is a party you want to be at’, because Purple are the three sardonic outsider school kids who grew up to become the coolest gang in town.

Half their friends ended up in their refineries. Some couldn’t take it; some ended their lives. Purple chose something else. Purple chose to party.

For fans also of Sonic Youth, Royal Trux and The Strokes – Purple play pop music. Messy, dirty, raucous, grit-spitting, tequila-glugging pop music.

They do not apologise for this. In fact, there’s a big streak of indie-punk snarl running up their backbones and coursing through their veins as well.

They are wrestling pop away from the world of vocoders, slick dance routines and airheads – and bringing back to where it belongs: to the beach, the house party, and dancing on the table in that bar you need fake ID for.

SUCH exciting music and SUCH an exciting band – get on this before it goes ballistic!
